UCMAS Abacus Based Program

UCMAS Abacus Based Program

Unlock Your Child’s Genius with UCMAS

UCMAS is a world-leading, abacus-based brain development program designed for children aged 4 to 13 years. By combining the power of the abacus with innovative mental math techniques, UCMAS helps children boost their mental agility, enhance intelligence, and sharpen core learning skills such as focus, concentration, memory, and problem-solving—laying a strong foundation for academic excellence and lifelong success.

What is UCMAS?
UCMAS stands for the Universal Concept of Mental Arithmetic System, a unique child development program founded in Malaysia by Professor Dr. Dino Wong. The first UCMAS center opened in 1993 with a simple but powerful mission: to provide quality abacus and mental math training and help children “Discover the Genius Within.”

Global Recognition
An ISO 9001:2008 certified program, UCMAS has transformed the lives of thousands of children worldwide. Today, it stands as an internationally acclaimed program, empowering young minds across the globe to think faster, calculate smarter, and achieve more.

UCMAS Benefits

C-O-M-I-C J-A-R-S

Concentration

Concentration is the concentrated and directed attention towards a particular matter with clear reflection that creates a deep image and mental impression. An enhanced concentration leads to better absorption power. Studying will then be a joyful thing for these children. In the abacus and mental arithmetic education children will be trained to concentrate when listening to the teachers questions (that ranges from easy to difficult) and then focus on calculating the answers as accurately as possible.

Observation

Observation is the ability to compare and analyse and differentiate objects, motives and steps. It is also a state of alertness and swiftness of the mind and senses. This comes from the need to understand the theoretical requirements of each calculation and at the same time be aware of the time, and promptings from the teachers.

Memory

Memory is the ability to store and retrieve information and experiences. It has been found that memory in the left brain would not stay long, but an image that is recorded in the right brain would stay on in the mind forever. By stimulating the right brain with mental arithmetic, and in combination with the alertness of the eyes, ears and hands, the ability to store and recall is developed together.

Therefore, the ability to solve 10-digits arithmetic problems in only a few seconds is only a small success in comparison to the actual mental training that has been done in order to achieve the skill to perform rapid calculations.

Imagination

By using the imagination of the right brain to visualize the abacus in mind, inevitably the powers of visualization would become sharp and clear. Albert Einstein believes that the imagination is important than knowledge, because imagination is the main source of yet-to-be-discovered knowledge.

Creativity

Most of the calculation and finger movements are done by the left hand, which is controlled by the right side of the brain. More left hand movement will develop right side of the brain. Creativity also needs good imagination skills which is enhanced by UCMAS program

Judgment

To be a good judge, one requires appreciating both sides of the issue. UCMAS helps develop both sides of the brain, thus ensuring a good sense of judgment within a child.

Application

It is the art of understanding a situation and then apply all your wisdom and knowledge to give a better meaning to the situation.

Reasoning

To reason about anything, we require a well-balanced, logical and analytical brain. UCMAS has trained both sides of the brain by using abacus, flash cards and speedwriting.

Self-Confidence

With exceptionally strong memory, concentration with enhanced arithmetic skills with high accuracy and speed, children’s confidence is will get a real boost.

UCMAS Training Method

The UCMAS Difference: We Don’t Tutor, We Inspire with our Innovative Approach

UCMAS is not a tutoring program. UCMAS whole-brain development program builds foundational capabilities through a series of in-class training activities conducted by our trained class instructors. Our rigorous training techniques are based on pedagogical design by child development experts to ensure our students can benefit from and be successful in our program.

The UCMAS program improves math skills and promotes whole brain thinking through:

Thinking in Pictures

Students boost memory power through visualization by holding numbers in their mind while handling the physical or mental Abacus.

A Flash of Brilliance

Students create a mental image of the beads on their mental Abacus with the help of flash cards. Each student who completes the UCMAS program will have memorized 450,000 images.

The Need for Speed

Speed training encourages children to listen attentively and respond to questions quickly, sharpening their focus and concentration.

Building Mathematical Concepts

Manipulating the physical or virtual beads of the Abacus provides students with another frame of reference to learn mathematical concepts, such as:

  • The base-ten number system
  • Number concepts and numeric relationships
  • Place values Carrying and borrowing
  • Combinations and complements of numbers

These are mathematical building blocks that complement the curriculum used in Canada’s public and private schools. Our program supports and augments what students learn in school.

From a purely mathematical perspective, Abacus-based mental math makes any arithmetic a snap. Understanding math through the Abacus inspires new perspectives: children learn to subtract by adding; to multiply without multiplying; and to perform long division problems in their head faster than most people can add two numbers together. They can express large numbers simply, follow long streams of sums with ease and successfully incorporate compound numbers through the use of supplementary numbers for 5 and 10.

Our students learn techniques in Mental Math that will stay with them long after they have completed the program.
